Summary Description
The Director of Nursing is accountable and responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and coordinating the Surgery Center’s clinical operations. He|she coordinates activities routinely, as appropriate, with the Administrator, Medical Director, Business Office Manager, and the Governing Board.
Responsibilities
Maintain services following written policies and comply with various regulatory and accrediting agencies and are responsible for quality patient care.
In cooperation with the Administrator and Medical Director, develops and monitors standards of care.
In conjunction with the Administrator and Medical Director, determines clinical goals and effectively manages resources to achieve the goals.
Maintains a collegial relationship with physicians to ensure quality patient care.
Supervises all materials management functions, maintains an adequate inventory of equipment and supplies.
Manage clinical personnel, including recruitment, selection, training, supervision, and retention of clinical employees.
Manages and directs all clinical staff daily, which includes the management of the normal staffing process. Coordinates staffing to minimize room turnover and maximize case volume capacity.
Fosters an environment that promotes staff growth and development.
Assesses, the clinical staff’s educational needs and implements programs to meet those needs.
Ensure adherence to Surgery Center policies, procedures, and safety programs.
In cooperation with the Medical Director, is responsible for quality improvement.
Provide efficient and effective patient care.
Maintain an awareness and understanding of current clinical and regulatory legislation as it impacts the Surgery Center and institutes changes as warranted.
On an as-needed basis may act in the capacity of a Registered Nurse, either in the preoperative area, postoperative area, or operating room.
All other functions as assigned by the Administrator.
ASC management experience is a must. Primary responsibilities include maintaining medications, supplies, staff credentialing, staff schedules, preparation for Medicare credentialing, and circulating RN and PACU RN duties.
Qualifications
Current licensure in this state as a registered nurse; BSN degree preferred but not required.
Demonstrated managerial competence and three years’ management experience in an ambulatory surgery center or an operating room in an acute care hospital.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Human relations skills.
ACLS certification preferred within six months of the date of hire.
Current BCLS certification.
Knowledge of personal computers.
