The Infection Control RN develops and implements nursing and ancillary department members techniques to improve patient care in measures that prevent infection; makes nursing decisions relating to medical care and management based on clinical judgment in prevention or dealing with infection in a facility | hospital.
Develops, implements, and continually monitors the infection control policies and procedures for all departments.
Ensures compliance to regulatory requirements.
Provides physicians and staff with updates of infection control policy changes.
Investigates outbreaks or clusters of infections.
Monitors, analyzes, and interprets bacteriology reports and infection statistics, recommends appropriate control measures to prevent dissemination of resistant microorganisms and pathogens.
Participates in Infection Control Committees.
Collaborates with local and state health departments in the prevention, control, and appropriate reporting of communicable diseases.
Participates in ongoing infection control educational programs for employees, including TB, HIV|Hep|Universal Precautions.
May educate patients as necessary.
Implements current standards and seeks expected outcomes for Infection Control practices, and ensures compliance to regulatory agency standards.
Work closely with Infectious Disease physicians and all clinical service leaders, department directors, Medical and Executive Staff.
Utilizes computerized documentation systems to access relevant patient data.
Utilizes knowledge of age specific needs of patient in performance of duties and responsibilities.
Collect data of patients with infections that require isolation precaution and use of specific antibiotics. (e.g.; MRSA, C.diff, etc.)
Associate’s Degree of Science in Nursing required
Bachelor’s and|or Masters in Nursing, Public Health or health care related field preferred
Certification | Licensure:
Current State Registered Nurse (RN) License
Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS); Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
Certification Infection Control (CIC) is highly preferred
3-5 years Med|Surg and|or Critical Care nursing experience
Minimum of 1 year experience in Infection Control
Basic knowledge of the principles of epidemiology and inctions, diseases, sterilization, sanitation, and disinfection practice preferred
Experience in handling employee health preferred
Knowledge of nursing and medical practices, procedures, laws, regulations and guidelines that pertain to Infection Control issues.
Proven dependability, reliability, flexibility and creativity in achieving solutions.
Excellent communication and customer service skills in order to communicate effectively with staff at all levels throughout the facility.
Demonstrated commitment to safety and the highest quality patient care.
Ability to lead programs and|or teams.
Knowledge of OSHA and CDC requirements as pertaining to infection control in institutions are required.
