The Nurse Manager assumes 24-hour responsibility for planning, supervising, and evaluating the care of patients to ensure comprehensive and continuous care for each patient|family in the Medical Surgical unit.
Reports to the Unit Director and provides overall direction for employees, 24 hour accountability and assists with budgetary responsibility.
Assists with hiring, training, directing, development and evaluating of staff.
Assists with development and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure efficient and effective delivery of health services in a unit.
Approves or monitors expenditures, purchases and other actions to ensure compliance with budget guidelines.
Promotes, supports, and facilitates the delivery of compassionate, evidence based nursing care to create an optimal patient experience.
Supervises the total nursing care of all patients on the unit(s) of service and gives the appropriate direction to each staff member to provide quality patient care.
Maintains timely and open communication with all members of nursing personnel, medical staff, multi-disciplinary team, and other providers.
Evaluates personnel, assesses environment, and determines priorities for care in order to plan, implement, and evaluate outcomes of care.
Knowledge of appropriate regulatory agency standards to include but not limited to JCAHO, OSHA, and others as applicable.
More than 3 years experience required
Bachelors Degree in Nursing required
Masters Degree in Nursing highly preferred
Registered Nurse in Iowa; Registered Nurse in Illinois within 6 months
Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
Specialty Certifications: Certified Med-Surg RN (CMSRN) and Medical-Surgical Nurse-Board Certified (RN-BC) preferred
Requires skill in interpersonal communication, group dynamics, problem solving, delegation, interviewing, observation, counseling, and teaching
Participates in evaluation process and demonstrates ability to identify behaviors
Must have strong written and oral communication skills
Demonstrates ability to assess staff needs and develop objective goals
Maintains clinical and leadership competencies
