Job Description
The Surgical Tech performs the following:
Performs general clinic functions.
Schedules and prepares patients and sets up instruments, supplies, and equipment for specialized procedures in the OR and specialty clinics.
Assists specialty surgeon during surgical and diagnostic procedures.
Assembles, operates, and maintains diagnostic and therapeutic equipment.
Orders diagnostic laboratory and radiographic procedures as directed.
Performs administrative activities unique to specific surgical clinics.
Performs Otolaryngology functions. Operates special otolaryngology ultrasound equipment. Administers nasal and ear medications under supervision of the physician.
Assists physicians with patient care; patient questionnaires, vital signs.
Assists physicians and nurses with otolaryngological procedures, including wound care, suture removal, splint removal, staple removal, minor surgical procedures.
Provides patient/parent education as requested.
Provides medical training to agencies and personnel other than medical. Training includes areas such as aseptic technique and self-aid buddy care. Schedules in- service training on new procedures, techniques, and equipment.
Provides required basic life support (BLS) training.
Conducts or schedules periodic disaster training, fire drills, and evacuation procedures.
Maintains clean and well-stocked otolaryngology supply room
Coordinates data collection resources for the clinic information systems.
Remains current with otolaryngology trends, care and supplies; performs other duties as assigned.
Performs management and training functions within surgical services.
Plans and schedules workloads as well as duty assignments. Establishes work methods and standards. Evaluates work capability and proficiency of subordinates.
Plans and conducts training.
Interprets policies and instructions.
Inspects and evaluates activities and procedures to ensure maintenance of asepsis and proper environmental, equipment, and facility safety conditions.
Analyzes requirements and supervises requisition, storage, maintenance, and issue of equipment and supplies.
Supervises, prepares and maintains reports and records.
Prepares all documentation to meet or exceed established standards of theMTF, to include, but not limited to, timeliness, accuracy, content and signature. Only MTF and Air Force-approved abbreviations shall be used for documentation of the patient health record.
Operations Security (OPSEC) requirements are exercised in an effort to reduce program vulnerability from successful adversary collection and exploitation of critical information. The contractor and contractor employee shall apply OPSEC in the performance of their position description and PWS IAW AFI 10-701 Operations Security.
Clinic days: Mon—Fri 0730—1630 and/or Surgery days: Mon—Fri 0645—1545. Responsible staff have the right to adjust daily schedules in order to maintain quality patient care. Duty hours will not exceed 40 hours per week
Job Requirements
Experience:• Experience: One year of experience as a Surgical Technician or Operating Room Technician after graduation.( shall have at least 12 months experience within the past 24 months.)
Minimum Qualifications:
• Degree: Certificate.
• Education: Graduate from Surgical Technology program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or Accrediting Bureau
of Health Education Schools (ABHES) or completion of a formal training program provided by any branch of the U.S. Armed Forces (Army, Navy, Air Force) for surgical technicians, surgical technologists or operating room technicians.
• Certification: Certified as a Surgical Technologist (CST) from The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or certified as a Tech-in-Surgery (TS-C) from the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) or possess a Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) certification as a surgical technician and/or operating room technician.
BLS certification.
Required immunizations.
